Scott Krug Bellies Up to the Public Trough

Madison -- Between 2009 and 2011 Scott Krug has been paid $49,943 by state taxpayers as a legislator and at least $12,000 more from the state of Wisconsin. Krug owns the business New Opportunities, LLC and says he works as a "life coach". Yet Krug has paid a grand total of only $305 in state income taxes over these same years, including $0.0 in both 2009 and 2010.

One Wisconsin Now Executive Director Scot Ross said, "Scott Krug owes us an explanation. How is it that state taxpayers send him at least $61,000 and he sends back only $305 in state income taxes?"

A review of state tax records maintained by the Department of Revenue shows that Krug paid $0 in state income tax in 2009, $0 in 2010, and merely $305 in 2011, despite receiving nearly $50,000 in state taxpayers funded salary and a Cadillac health insurance plan. Information provided on Krug's statements of economic interest on file with the Government Accountability Board reveal that, in addition to his legislative salary, he received at least $1,000 in both 2009 and 2010 and at least $10,000 in 2011 in state tax dollars. Krug also reported additional income of at least $15,000 between 2009 and 2011.

Ross concluded, "Maybe Scott Krug can provide some 'life coaching' advice to Mitt Romney, I bet he'd be interested in finding out how to pay the 0.6% state income tax rate like Krug did last year on the $59,000 plus we paid him."
