Ryan Speech Ignores Complicity in Iraq War

'Paul Ryan Had a Responsibility to Apologize. He Did Not,' Says One WI Now

Madison -- One Wisconsin Now Executive Director Scot Ross released the following statements in response to Rep. Paul Ryan's speech at the Republican National Convention.

"Tonight, Paul Ryan had the opportunity to at long last apologize for his complicity in sending so many members of his fellow generations off to die and be injured in the Iraq War. He did not.

"Paul Ryan sat alone as a member of Wisconsin's congressional delegation from these generations - Generations X and Y, who suffered the vast majority of casualties in Iraq.  He was 32 years old when he voted in favor of the Iraq War, stood with George W. Bush and Dick Cheney throughout his 30s, and did nothing at 40, leaving President Obama to bring our brave troops home.

"At no point did Paul Ryan publicly question the war, the litany of lies upon which it was based and the sacrifice it would require of so many soldiers and their families. Paul Ryan had eight years to act. Yet every single day, Paul Ryan put fealty to his political party above his responsibility to his fellow young men and women.

"Paul Ryan's stunning refusal to address this in his speech to the nation is a stinging punctuation mark to the failure and deception of the misguided war that cost so many in Generation X and Y their lives in service to this nation."
