Right-Wing Irony Parade Adds Another Act

Madison -- The ironic cavalcade of right-wing politicians rallying for unaccountable privatization in a publicly run building on Saturday just upped the ante with the addition of Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch to the roster of speakers. One Wisconsin Now Executive Director Scot Ross pondered if Kleefisch’s performance will be ironic, hypocritical or both.

He commented, “If Lt. Gov. Kleefisch holds true to form, we can expect to hear about the evils of ‘government health care’ from a woman who may very well owe her life to it. After all, it was the government health care she had through her husband, State Representative Joel Kleefisch, that covered her successful cancer surgery and follow-up treatments.”

The rally at which Kleefisch will appear is being held at the Waukesha County Expo Center, a public building that receives an operating subsidy from area property taxpayers.

Joining Kleefisch will be keynote speaker U.S. Senator Ron Johnson. While touting his personal wealth and ownership of businesses, Johnson regularly omits the origins of his fortune, marriage into a wealthy Oshkosh area family. Almost unbelievably, Sen. Johnson was able to top his buffoonery over his personal “success” this week, voting against the Veterans Jobs Corp Act.

Ross concluded, “There’ll be plenty of hypocrisy and empty platitudes on stage at the Waukesha County Expo Center this weekend. What looks to be in short supply is anyone in touch with reality.”
