One Wisconsin Now Statements on Speaker Fitzgerald's 'Laughable' Recall Petition Bill

Latest GOP Attack on Freedom Is Latest GOP Effort to Cling to Power

Madison -- One Wisconsin Now Executive Director Scot Ross released the following statements regarding the latest power grab by outgoing Assembly Speaker Jeff Fitzgerald (R-Horicon) and current U.S. Senate candidate related to recall petition signing. Fitzgerald announced the scheme just as the recall effort against Gov. Scott Walker announced over 500,000 recall signatures have been gathered in less than a month.

“Jeff Fitzgerald, Scott Walker and the corporate-financed right have remained silent over the threats of illegal petition destruction and thuggish intimidation efforts by their confederates on the right. Jeff Fitzgerald and Scott Walker have attacked the rights of working families, the rights of voters and the rights of protestors. And despite the billions in tax breaks for the rich and corporations, Wisconsin led the nation in job loss last month and we’ve lost 30,000 jobs since Walker signed his budget.”
