In an effort to hide his extreme policies, Congressman Mark Green failed to fill out a survey by the ultra extreme Pro-Life Wisconsin. The group said that they can only endorse candidates that have filled out such surveys. At the time it seemed clear that although he is joined at the heart with them, he likely did not complete their survey for PR reasons. An endorsement from them would rightly feed into the claim of him being way too extreme for Wisconsin.
Now the recent news that the FDA has approved Plan B to be available over the counter for adult women. Both Pro-Life Wisconsin and Wisconsin Right to Life have quickly and expectedly condemned the FDA action, yet Green has not said one word. The latter of the two extreme groups has gone so far as to call Green one of its "heroes." How strange that the "hero" is not joining the group in defiance of the FDA approval. It seems that Green's most recent shy streak is yet another attempt to disguise his true identity.
Today Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin called on Congressman Mark Green to publicly support the FDA's decision to make Emergency Contraception available over the counter and to reconsider his previous support of initiatives that would allow pharmacists to legally deny women both their doctor prescribed birth control and Emergency Contraception available over-the-counter.
I think that Wisconsin Right to Life and Pro-Life Wisconsin should also call on Congressman Mark Green to state his position on this and related issues. Is he ignoring them for political gain? Are they ok with that? If these two groups are satisfied with his lack of public commitment, perhaps a reporter somewhere in the state may want to pin him down on Plan B. After all, voters do have a right to know. Left to his own devices, Mark Green will continue to play hide and seek.
