The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel ran a story on the release of a report by the Milwaukee 7, a seven-county organization created to help make the metropolitan region more competitive economically. The most important thing to Milwaukee's manufacturing sector, according to the report, is ensuring an ample supply of skilled workers. The second most important factor in improving Milwaukee's business climate is lowering health care costs.
Wait! Did I read that correctly? It seems that the manufacturing sector puts a skilled workforce and health care reform even above a concern over taxes! What's wrong with them, don't they know that the right wing has gone out of their way to badmouth our state all because of that one issue?
Since the Republican Party pretends to stand for good business, I have to wonder if this legislature will address the top two concerns addressed in this report. Will they pass meaningful legislation to help create a more skilled workforce? Will the do-nothing legislature finally act on health care reform? If not for the people, then how about for the businesses that they claim to support.
