10,000 Emails Plus Something Very Revealing

Just over a week ago, the Institute for One Wisconsin launched an email campaign asking concerned citizens to send a message to the board members of Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce (WMC). To date over 10,000 communications have been generated in that very short time. This is just another example of how people all across the state are sick of their increasingly partisan behavior. Outgoing UW-Madison Chancellor John Wiley accurately stated that WMC has been taken over by “political extremists” and that they have created a “toxic” political environment in Wisconsin. Obviously he is not alone in making that assessment as evidenced by large numbers of emails sent out by concerned Wisconsinites. The “political extremists” that Wiley describes are apparently so concerned about the email campaign that one of them decided to send his own communication to the WMC board members. In it he pleads that they should not let the emails disrupt their fundraising drive for the ads that they plan to run in the coming months. In an email to WMC board members, WMC Vice President for Government Relations James Buchen said the following: It appears that the email campaign is an effort to disrupt WMC's fundraising drive for the WMC Issues Mobilization Council, Inc. We hope that this will not be the case. We hope that Directors will continue to show the resolve and fortitude demonstrated at the June Board Retreat when the Board voted unanimously to launch our fall issue campaign.

Have You Emailed WMC's Board Yet?

Yesterday we told you about the early success of our email campaign to the Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce (WMC) board. Since then many more people have responded and thousands more emails have been sent flooding the inboxes of those that sit on the WMC Board. If you have not yet had the opportunity to speak your mind to the WMC Board of Directors, now is the time to take your stand . WMC has been rightfully on the receiving end of much criticism lately by some of the most respected people in our state. Most recently the outgoing UW-Madison Chancellor John D. Wiley called out WMC for allowing itself to be “hijacked by highly partisan, ideologically driven staff.” The senior staff at WMC have ignored very similar statements in the recent past by other prominent Wisconsinites and all indications seem to show that they will also ignore Chancellor Wiley’s as well. WMC Vice President Jim Buchen responded to the comments claiming that he and the other staff “is not ideologically fixated.” A laughable comment considering just some of the following facts available at WMCWatch.org : Many of the staff have worked in or come directly out of Republican Party politics. Only Republicans receive a high rank on their phony “scorecard”. They have spent millions of dollars to support Republican candidates.

OWN Launches Project ‘09

One Wisconsin Now launched Project '09 , an interactive website that will help build the progressive agenda for a better Wisconsin, at the 2008 Wisconsin Democratic Convention in Stevens Point today. We need an agenda that serves and protects the people of Wisconsin and the progressive ideals we hold dear, and no one is more capable and qualified of crafting that agenda than the people themselves. Progressives must be heard and 'Project '09' is our way to ensure our leaders listen. Project ’09 will let the Bush administration and its rubber stamps, including Senator John McCain and his ideological allies, know that in Wisconsin we want something done now to reverse their failing policies. It is not enough to rail about the mayhem of George Bush's failed agenda that’s done nothing to move our country and Wisconsin forward. Progressives have a chance to chart a new course for this state and this nation. Log on to Project ’09 today , and tell us what issues should be front and center in the coming year. It’s time for Madison and Washington hear from you!

The Return of the Bush-McCain Stamporee!

One Wisconsin Now will be putting on an encore performance of its popular Bush-McCain Stamporee ! It will take place outside the town hall meeting that John McCain has scheduled this afternoon at the Martin Luther High School in Greendale. The event will demonstrate how when it comes to the failing policies of George W. Bush, Senator John McCain is actually McSame – a literal rubber stamp in his votes in the U.S. Senate. During the event, an actor portraying Senator McCain will use a gigantic rubber stamp to give his personal seal of approval for Bush’s problematic stances on all of the major issues of the day. An actor portraying Bush will look on as McCain rubber stamps his failed policies. The Stamporee will take place today, Thursday, May 29. It will run continuously outside Martin Luther High School (5201 South 76th Street, Greendale) from 3:30 – 4:30p.m.

May Walks in Wisconsin

During the month of May Labor 2008 will kick off its biggest mobilization effort. Union activists all around this country will be talking to union households about Sen. McCain’s anti-worker record. In Wisconsin people will be busy recruiting for member-to-member walks and phone banks. The walks begin Saturday May 10th in Milwaukee and May 17th in Wausau, Green Bay, Kenosha, Madison, Eau Claire and La Crosse. Much of the effort will focus on John McCain’s healthcare plan and how it leaves Working Families on Their Own. Soaring health care costs are forcing wages down for people lucky enough to have insurance. Another 47 million are uninsured. Although John McCain says he intends to combat rising costs, his proposals protect insurance company profits at the expense of working families.
